Here, the sentence "he refused to give it to me" makes sense even without the rest of the sentence. Hence, this part of the sentence is a complete or independent sentence.<h2>Incomplete sentences:</h2>Example: When it looked like it was about to rain, I hurried back home.Here, the sentence "When it looked like it was about to rain" doesn't make sense as it begs the question, "What happened when it looked like it was about to rain?", and so the sentence is left incomplete.
